Nuneaton

A northern Warwickshire town is Nuneaton (/nəˈniːtən/). Opened in 1847, linking Nuneaton to the growing national network at Rugby and Stafford, the Trent Valley was the line to reach Nuneaton. In the post-war years, Nuneaton's industries that are traditional like manufacturing and textiles have declined.

Part of constituency of same name in the House of Commons is Nuneaton. A Telegraph of Coventry sub-edition, the Nuneaton Telegraph in 1992 was launched (when Tribune, the aforementioned, switched to weekly from daily production). Stockingford station, Abbey Street station, and Chilvers Coton station served Nuneaton.

With teams from Nuneaton, Bedworth and North Warwickshire competing in the Nuneaton & District Sunday Football League (NDSFL), Sunday football is played in the town. Bowling club of Nuneaton, where bowls on flat green is played, is in the town. It is the location of the carnival in Warwickshire, Nuneaton Carnival, which takes place every June.

Mount Judd, which is a former heap of spoil that is conical shaped, (518 ft) 158 metres high made from spoil from Judkins Quarry, is a major landmark in Nuneaton, which can be seen for many miles. A silk ribbon weaving industry in the area became established in the mid-17th century, which included Bedworth, Nuneaton, much of North Warwickshire and Coventry. Incorporating Nuneaton and the surrounding urban settlements, including Hartshill and Bulkington, the Nuneaton built-up area had a population of 92,968 at the 2011 census.

A line via Nuneaton to Leicester from Birmingham was opened in 1864, and, as it linked Nuneaton with Birmingham, this proved to be, for the local economy, the most important. In 1907, Nuneaton was upgraded to a municipal borough, to which, in 1931, the parishes of Weddington and part of Caldecote were added. Out of the Parish of Our Lady of the Angels (which covered the town), the Parish of St Anne's, Chapel End, Nuneaton was created in 1949.

The main Nuneaton served by the West Coast Main Line near the centre is a railway junction that is important, running to the North West from London, the Line of Birmingham to Peterborough that is cross-country and via Bedworth by a Coventry line include two stations that the town has. (Nicknamed "the Nuns") Nuneaton R.F.C., who in National 3 Midlands play, Old Edwardians of Nuneaton of Midlands 2 West (South) division and Manor Park of the Midlands 4 West (South) league are rugby union clubs. In the Riversley Park grounds adjacent to the centre, Nuneaton has a museum and art gallery.
